Position Summary:

The Plant Health Assistant supports the Breeding Director at our Bailey Innovations location and plays an active role in the full plant development cycle. This position offers the opportunity to design, build, and refine a variety of creative irrigation systems, while collaborating closely with the breeding team to support new plant introductions.

In addition to daily monitoring of irrigation locations, the Plant Health Assistant will operate and adjust advanced irrigation hardware and software, inspect and repair equipment, and manage seasonal winterization. The role also includes tracking key performance data, training staff in irrigation best practices, and actively contributing to multiple stages of the plant development process in coordination with the Plant Development, Brand, and Research & Development teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and execute daily work plans for monitoring irrigation locations.
  • Monitor and record pH and EC levels of crops.
  • Design, build, install, and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Operate and adjust irrigation hardware, software, and programming daily based on crop needs and conditions.
  • Inspect equipment regularly; identify and repair faulty or damaged components when possible.
  • Communicate any changes to irrigation systems or schedules promptly.
  • Perform winterization of all irrigation systems and locations.
  • Train and oversee employees in proper irrigation practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in horticulture or related field, or 2+ years of experience with irrigation.
  • Ability to operate tractors, sprayers, forklifts, and loaders.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Availability for overtime, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with nursery operations and data collection for plant performance metrics.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company insurability standards.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., perform frequent standing, bending, lifting, and equipment use, work outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust, fertilizers, pesticides, and noise, and be available to work at least one weekend per month and occasionally on holidays.
