The selected candidate will be offered a salary of $60,428.00.

The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services. ACS manages community supports, foster care, and subsidized childcare vouchers. Child protection staff respond to maltreatment allegations. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and community programs.

The Office of Placement Administrations (OPA) handles foster care placement referrals for children in ACS custody across NYC. The Placement Specialist liaises with provider agencies to secure safe placements, troubleshoot issues, and advocate for childrens placement needs.

Responsibilities of the Placement Specialists
  • Pay attention to details in all aspects of the placement process.
  • Present children positively to contract agencies.
  • Maintain contact with intra-agency staff (Child Family Specialist, Case Managers, case planners, etc.).
  • Utilize databases such as Placement Module, WMS, LTS, CCRS, CAS +, Connections, Docushare, and email.
  • Organize case records electronically and by phone, following office guidelines.
Additional Information

Section 424-A of the New York Social Services Law requires inquiries into child abuse reports for candidates with child-caring responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with at least 24 credits in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education, nursing, or cultural anthropology, including at least 12 credits in one discipline.
Requirements for Assignment Level II
  • Completion of six months of training and experience at Level I.
  • One year of satisfactory child welfare casework experience for direct appointment to Level II.
