• Operate heavy equipment machinery to excavate, fill, level and distribute material for installation of underground utilities such as sewer, water, storm sewer lines, gas, or electrical conduit.
• Operators must be able to dig for grade and utilize sloping, shoring, and benching techniques.
• Operate the following machines; excavator, front end loader, scraper, motor grader, roller, bulldozer, skid steer, backhoe, and haul truck.
• Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead.
• Maintain sub-grade and assist in setup grade.
• Set up center line and hold line while digging.
• Create level surfaces, grade slopes to specifications, remove material and fill voids using plans or a surveyor as guidance.
• Inspect equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition.
• Perform general labor duties as needed or required.
• Understand utility marking and know how to dig around them, along with operating equipment in close quarters of people, underground utility lines.
• Ability to compute and set grades using laser equipment to maintain desired pipe grade.
• Able to read drawings, plans and blueprints.
• Familiar with staking and checking grade.
• Must know the consistency of material and understand compaction techniques.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to process information quickly and accurately.

Position Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must have the ability to work extended hours as required by the workload.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in all types of terrain
• Able to meet all physical requirements such as standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to work around loud noises and can tolerate being exposed to odors, gases, dust, etc.
• Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, in confined spaces, and in excavated areas.
