Pilates Garage has been serving the community of Park Slope and Gowanus, Brooklyn since 2003. We strive to provide a caring and adaptive environment for all levels, needs and ages. The studio has a warm and intimate vibration and allows teachers and clients to settle into catered and creative sessions on the mat, with props and with apparatus. We are particularly interested in thoughtful teachers who can provide safe and embodied instruction to clients that do not fit the ideal fitness mold of the pilates model. Many of our long-time teachers are dancers, theater makers and somatic movers who have created a steady following. We hold a list of loyal and devoted clients who have been with us for ten years or more, and we want to keep and grow in wisdom with all who come to us. The studio is uniquely balanced between Pilates and Alexander modalities and we seek to provide both ease and strength to our clients.

Role Description

This is a fully certified Pilates Instructor role that includes teaching private Pilates, and duets on mat and apparatus. This is an on-site role located in the Gowanus/Park Slope area of Brooklyn, NY. We are particularly interested in filling needs on weekend days and weekday late afternoon into evening. One would be hired as an independent contract/freelance teacher. If you are an experienced teacher looking for a small studio with a subtle approach, or a teacher fresh out of certification looking for a place to learn and grow with nuanced pilates work, we would love to meet you.

Qualifications

• Certification in Pilates Mat and Apparatus Required
• Strong Customer Service skills
• Excellent Verbal Communication skills
• Experience with managing online schedules and payments helpful, or willingness to learn
• Ability to open and close the studio with confidence
• Maintain a clean and organized studio before, during and after session
• Ability to work with clients of different ages and abilities
• Special training in perinatal and/or scoliosis desirable but not required
