JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Requires Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and/or five (5) years of phlebotomy supervisor experience.

Experience

Five (5) years experience is preferred.

Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Color perception. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to biological and mechanical hazards. Operates various lab analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, refrigerators and freezers, alarm systems, incubators, rotators, water baths, biological safety hoods, incinerators, personal computers, terminals and printers, and telephones. Lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional sitting and bending.

JOB SUMMARY

The Phelbotomy Supervisor is responsible for the procurement of blood specimens via venipuncture and capillary skin puncture technique. Special skills include excellent venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick technique for neonate to geriatric patient, including the psychiatric and neurologically impaired. Special training is preferred in blood collection of neonates. Communication skills are essential to ensure patient cooperation and satisfaction. Routinely, assigns and responsibly directs staff. This position is required to utilize independent judgment.
