Ability to assists in clerical duties of the department.Position Duties (Not all Inclusive)* Verifies the name of the test ordered, patient name, and hospital number with the requisition and label* Accurately and timely label specimens with correct information, i.e., date, time, and phlebotomist's initials and delivers specimens to appropriate laboratory area* Receives telephone orders politely and accurately handles information* Inputs orders into the computer system, handles processing of computer orders accurately, timely, and efficiently.* Covers phlebotomy service for both for Inpatient and Outpatient, doing order entry and specimen collection* Competently demonstrates appropriate preparation of equipment and patient for venipuncture procedures.* Competently demonstrates a clear understanding of the maximum amounts of blood that may be drawn based on the following amounts for each age group.* Competently Demonstrates a proper tourniquet application using the rubber or elastic type or adjustable type of tourniquetOUR COMMUNITYNacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas and the official Garden Capital of Texas. Take in live jazz poolside, dance at a local dance hall or simply relax and reconnect at a local wine bar.QualificationsJob Title: Phlebotomist - PRN (As Needed)Department: LaboratoryReports To: Laboratory Manager / SupervisorFLSA Status: Non-ExemptJob Type: PRN / Per Diem / On-CallJob Summary:The PRN Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients of all age groups in various settings (e.g., inpatient, outpatient, emergency). This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently. As a PRN employee, the schedule is flexible and based on the organization's needs, including weekends, holidays, and nights as required.Key Responsibilities:* Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures accurately and efficiently.* Collect specimens following established procedures, including patient identification and labeling protocols.* Prepare and transport specimens to the laboratory for analysis.* Maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies.* Ensure proper documentation and entry of patient and specimen data into electronic systems.* Follow infection control, safety, and privacy protocols (HIPAA).* Provide compassionate and professional service to patients.* Assist with clerical and support tasks as needed in the lab or collection sites.* Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and laboratory staff.Qualifications:Education & Certification:* High School Diploma or GED required.* Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program preferred.* Current certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA, NCPT, or equivalent) preferred or required by some employers.Experience:* At least 6 months to 1 year of experience as a phlebotomist preferred.* Experience in hospital or clinical settings is a plus.Skills & Abilities:* Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques for diverse age groups.* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.* Ability to work independently and adapt to changing work environments.* Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.* Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and lab information systems (LIS).Physical Requirements:* Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.* May require lifting up to 25 lbs.* Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.
