Job Type Part-timeDescriptionThe Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the laboratory's smooth functioning. They require advanced technical skills to handle and prepare specimens for testing at various stages of the collection process. As they frequently interact with patients, family members, and healthcare providers, they must always maintain high professionalism.
  • Knowledge of and complies with applicable federal and state laws.
  • Comply with mandatory regulatory and credentialing requirements and participate in continuous improvement activities as assigned to ensure healthcare service quality.
  • Always maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform venipunctures on patients efficiently, professionally, and courteously by laboratory policy.
  • Prepare and send specimens according to the specific reference laboratory policy for reference laboratory testing.
  • Knowledge of and complies with applicable federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities as assigned to ensure healthcare service quality.
  • Consistently exhibit professional attitude and appearance in performing all job-related duties to maintain high standards in delivering quality health care services.
  • Perform all patient care duties that demonstrate a humanistic attitude toward the physical and psychological needs relevant to the patient's age.
  • Act as an intermediary between clients, physicians, and laboratory technologists to obtain additional specimen information crucial to the accuracy of test results.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, staff, and others.
  • Coordinate, plan, and utilize time efficiently to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the laboratory service customers.
  • Assist in transporting patients in and out of the laboratory phlebotomy area.
  • Quality is paramount in all aspects of daily functions and work processes, including requisitioning lab services, patient identification, specimen collection, and preparation for testing.
  • Demonstrate initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances, especially those not covered by written or verbal instructions, to promote cooperation and minimize disruption to the working environment.
  • Combining ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision-making processes and procedure performance.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies in the work area and request and order supplies as necessary to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid duplication of energy and services whenever possible.
  • Maintain a clean and neat workspace and assist in the care and maintenance of laboratory work area in furnishings/equipment.
  • Observe and adhere to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follow all safety, quality assessment, and infection control standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

RequirementsEducation: High School or equivalent Licenses/Certificates: Phlebotomy certification or equivalent experience. Physical Requirements:
  • Color Vision-the ability to distinguish and identify different colors.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
  • Near Acuity-the ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
  • Moderate prolonged standing/walking
