Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist patients in a professional and courteous manner
- Perform venipunctures and finger sticks for blood specimen collection
- Process specimens and complete required documentation accurately
- Conduct routine lab procedures and CLIA-waived testing
- Use the double identifier process to ensure patient and sample accuracy
- Prepare specimens and requisitions for outside lab vendors (e.g., Quest, LabCorp)
- Maintain accurate refrigerator/freezer temperature logs and perform quality control checks
- Keep lab and drawing areas clean, safe, and well-stocked
- Monitor and reorder lab and medical supplies through monthly inventory
- Verify specimen labeling, volume, and appropriate tube selection before vendor pickup
- Serve as a clinical support backup (e.g., EKGs, vital signs, patient flow, injections)
- Recognize and resolve questionable lab orders or test requests
- Follow universal precautions and infection control standards at all times
- Maintain lab equipment per manufacturer and quality assurance guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Qualification:
- High School Diploma or GED
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Phlebotomy certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience
- Valid BLS certification required
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a clinical team
- Experience with CLIA requirements and waived testing is a plus
