Phlebotomist - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center : Job Details

Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond to telephone inquiries in a timely manner. Procure appropriate blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick following proper patient identification procedures. Instruct patients on self-collection procedures for laboratory specimens and collect non-blood samples as required. Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment while recognizing priorities and accepting appropriate authority. Perform specimen collection at on- and off-site locations and transport specimens to the laboratory following safety procedures. Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, methods, quality control, safety, compliance, and hand hygiene. Perform clerical duties and utilize computer systems to enter demographic information, test orders, cancellations, charges, and credits accurately.
