Overview Collects blood from donors; assists with donor selection and assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of donors, assists in donor recruitment. Responsibilities
  • Assists in recruiting donors and operating a successful donor program including mobile drives
  • Performs Blood donor processing of whole blood donors including donor registration, selection , phlebotomy, labels blood units, quality control and maintenance, etc.
  • Performs donor registration and selection by obtaining information from prospective donors to complete medical history form in order to determine donor eligibility.
  • Phlebotomizes blood donors and patients; draws blood, pilot specimens, labels blood unit before and after drawing. Explains phlebotomy procedure to patient/ donor before beginning to help calm patient anxieties.
  • Performs general clerical functions.
  • Maintains records by filling out donor forms accurately (e.g., time of drawing, amount of blood drawn, donor reaction).
  • Checks equipment in the Donor Room and/or in Mobile Drive locations on a regular basis to assure that it is functioning properly; reports problems to supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all tests and procedures.
  • Collects equipment and other supplies for Blood Mobiles; assists in transportation and setting up of the site for Blood collection and assure transportation of collected units back to medical center.
  • Ensures medically aseptic technique and/or isolation precautions are maintained while performing job function.
  • Bring units to component room soon after phlebotomy (in house collections) for fractionation.
  • Patient care responsibilities are delivered with knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
QualificationsEducation: High school graduation or equivalency plus completion of an approved phlebotomy program or documentation of training and experience in phlebotomy. Experience: 2+ years' experience in Blood Bank phlebotomy procedures preferred. Skills: Knowledge of processing blood donors required. Proficiency in phlebotomy of donors required. Good verbal/communication skills required. Recruiting and marketing skills preferred. Pay Range USD $32.71 - USD $33.28 /Hr.
