We are excited to invite a passionate Pharmacy Intern Trainee to join our dynamic team! This role is crucial for interpreting and providing prescribed medications, IVs, and other pharmaceuticals as ordered by physicians and qualified prescribers, all under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. You will adhere to professional standards and legal requirements while contributing to patient care.

The Pharmacy Intern will report to the Director of Pharmacy and collaborate closely with Physicians and Pharmacy staff to ensure accurate medication dispensing. This position is an On Call role, with variable days and hours each week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately complete daily patient billing charges and credits for inpatients, outpatients, and departments within the hospital.
  • Pre-pack and label medications, ensuring documentation is accurate and systematic.
  • Prepare IV admixtures using aseptic techniques while following established policies and documentation protocols.
  • Fill unit dose carts and maintain departmental records efficiently.
  • Manage inventory levels, ordering and stocking supplies appropriately, and handle purchase orders accurately.
  • Monitor and document the use of narcotics and controlled substances in compliance with legal and organizational policies.
  • Provide clear communication when answering phone calls and refer inquiries to a pharmacist when necessary.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment for yourself and others.
  • Conduct yourself professionally and maintain a personal appearance that reflects the standards of our organization.
  • Perform all tasks under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist, including medication interpretation, compounding, and labeling.
  • Educate patients and family members about medication use in a way that matches their knowledge base and promotes understanding and compliance.
  • Document all pharmacokinetic consults and patient interactions accurately.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Pharmacy program at an accredited institution.
  • Valid Washington State Pharmacist Intern license in good standing.
  • Knowledge of unit-dose distribution systems and IV admixture programs.
  • Computer proficiency with Pharmacy systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Dexterity for handling various containers, medications, and equipment.
