The Pharmacy Intern is a casual/per diem position with varied shifts, primarily on weekends, with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts for more opportunities to learn. This schedule is ideal for the student who can balance a work schedule while completing their PharmD degree. An initial training period of ~10 days will be conducted. During the school year, the schedule will be a minimum of 4 shifts per month. During each summer break, the intern must complete 160 hours of staffing. This position is affiliated with our formal Scripps Health Intern Pharmacist Program. This is a 3-year commitment where interns must develop the necessary skills and competencies to advance each year and successfully graduate from the program.
Opportunities are available at our three of our hospital sites: Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas. Applicants will be matched with a site based on availability and need.

This is an application to our Scripps Health Intern Pharmacist Program. This program is focused on hospital pharmacy practice and does not provide ambulatory care experience. In this longitudinal program interns will gain additional clinical opportunities and responsibilities as they progress through each year of pharmacy school and complete program requirements. Our interns become key members of the inpatient pharmacy team, supporting technicians and pharmacists to meet the needs of our patients. Examples of activities include:
* Performing sterile compounding and other key tasks vital to pharmacy operations
* Shadowing clinical pharmacists
* Conducting medication history interviews
* Participating in journal clubs and other evidence-based medicine topic discussions
* Conducting patient discharge drug counseling
* Reviewing adverse drug events
* Residency planning, resume review and interview coaching
