This is a full-time, a 40-hour work week, onsite position. The schedule runs from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and includes working every other weekend, along with a minimum of two holiday shifts per year.

\nResponsibilities\nGeneral Duties\n
\n- Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
\n- Ensure safe and secure storage of all medications in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
\n- Comply with Federal and State laws (e.g., HIPAA), OSHA regulations, and PBM contracting requirements (e.g., FWA and CMS).
\n- Maintain all required documentation, including:\n
\n- Eye wash logs
\n- Refrigerator logs
\n- Perpetual inventory logs
\n
\n \n- Participate in departmental quality improvement activities to enhance pharmaceutical care.
\n- Use computer systems to process and maintain patient information and pharmacy records.
\n- Finalize sales using the cash register and follow proper cash handling procedures.
\n- Audit and maintain accurate records for controlled substances, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
\n- Procure and maintain adequate inventory levels in:\n
\n- Pharmacy medication stock rooms
\n- Automated medication carousels
\n- Automated dispensing machines
\n
\n \n- Provide and receive information via phone, in person, or in writing to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors. Refer drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
\n- Maintain and update:\n
\n- Automated medication stations
\n- Unit and department stock
\n- Emergency boxes
\n- Crash carts
\n
\n \n
\nFilling Duties\n
\n- Work in the Sterile Product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g., chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique.
\n- Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting, and stocking practices. Initial and date products as required.
\n- Prepare oral and injectable medications (including IV admixtures and TPN) for the correct patient at the appropriate time using proper technique.
\n
\nDistribution Duties\n
\n- Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationships during medication distribution.
\n- Participate in the distribution of medications, including:\n
\n- Medication cassettes
\n- Emergency medication carts
\n- Delivery of controlled substances per policy and regulations
\n
\n \n- Retrieve discontinued medications and return/credit them to the appropriate pharmacy area.
\n
\nInvestigational Duties\n
\n- Assist in the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational and study drugs.
\n
Qualifications
\n
Pharmacy Assistant
\n
\n- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required
\n
\n
\n
Pharmacy Technician, Associate
\n
\n- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent requiredAND one of the following:
\n- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
\n- Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
\n- Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System
\n- Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing
\n

\n
Pharmacy Technician, Intermediate
\n
\n- Completion of high school diploma or equivalentOR
\n- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician programAND one of the following:
\n- Two years of previous Pharmacy Technician experience
\n- Enrollment in good standing as a pharmacy student
\n
\n
Demonstrated competency in THREE (3) of the following FOURTEEN (14) skills:
