Job Summary GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Under direction of the Manager of PET Production Chemistry, the PET Radiopharmaceutical Manufacturing Chemist provides a variety of services to support the safe and efficient production and use of PET radiopharmaceuticals for research and clinical diagnostic use at MGH. The incumbent will be involved in all aspects of the day to day operation of the PET radiopharmaceutical production facility operating under cGMP, including radiochemical production area, analytical laboratory and clean room operations. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Under cGMP's, will be responsible for the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals including: a. Setup and preparation of chemicals and reagents b. Operation of automated radiochemistry synthesis units c. Cleaning of automated radiochemistry synthesis units d. Maintenance of automated radiochemistry synthesis units 2. Under cGMP's, will be involved in the aseptic preparation of PET radiopharmaceuticals in a cGMP clean room environment. a. Preparation of sterile filtration assemblies b. Environmental monitoring of aseptic processes c. Inoculation of sterility media 3. Under cGMP's, will be involved in the in quality control and release of PET radiopharmaceuticals a. Use of HPLC, TLC, GC, biological and radiometric tests required for release of PET radiopharmaceuticals 4. Actively involved in maintenance of cGMP clean room and production facility. 5. Involved in inventory management and stocking 6. Packaging of radiopharmaceuticals for transport SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: This section should be a bulleted list of minimum requirements explaining the skills (what the individual is trained for) and competencies (measurable as defined by the job) necessary to perform the job. - Experience or knowledge of TLC, HPLC and GC - Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint - Understanding of universal precautions and infection control - Effective interpersonal, writing, and communication skills - Attention to detail - Must be able to lift 60 lbs - Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to work in high-pressure situations Qualifications EDUCATION: Required: Bachelor's degree Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training: Chemistry or related discipline Equivalent Experience - please document if educational requirements can be met through equivalent experience: 4 - 6 years of directly related experience required in lieu of Bachelor's degree EXPERIENCE: Preferred: Experience in cGMP pharmaceutical production desired. Experience in the handling of radioactive materials, aseptic preparation and clean room experience preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS: The MGH PET Production facility is an FDA registered PET Radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Applicant will work in the PET Production in a cGMP facility located in the Edwards Research Building Basement.
