Job Title: Personal Care Assistant – Rosener House
Position Summary:
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides compassionate support to program participants by assisting with activities of daily living, ensuring their safety, and fostering a welcoming environment. The PCA works closely with the interdisciplinary team to promote participants' health, independence, and dignity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist participants with activities of daily living, including transfers, ambulation, eating, and toileting.
- Provide supervision and maintain participant safety throughout the program.
- Observe and report any changes in participant status promptly.
- Participate in assessment and care planning as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Assist staff with meal and snack service, including special diets and feeding under direction of Speech Therapist.
- Support environmental safety and sanitation practices.
- Help maintain a welcoming, cheerful, and protective atmosphere for all participants.
- Communicate effectively on a one-to-one basis with participants.
- Maintain confidentiality of participant information at all times.
- Assist Rosener House Nurse within scope of practice by monitoring heights, weights, and vital signs.
- Provide assistance to therapists as needed.
- Assist with program activities under the guidance of the Program Manager.
- Be trained and prepared to implement emergency procedures for groups or individuals.
Position Requirements
Skills & Qualifications:
- Training and experience working with impaired elders preferred.
- Physical ability and education in providing personal care assistance and transfers.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
Certifications & Clearances:
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Clearance from California Department of Social Services and Department of Justice prior to employment.
- Good physical health verified by a health screening, including a negative tuberculosis (TB) test.
Experience & Philosophy:
- Commitment to a care philosophy promoting health, independence, and dignity for participants.
- Experience communicating compassionately with elderly participants.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds to assist participants.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and carrying.
- Regularly pushing wheelchairs.
- Ability to assist participants with toileting needs and transfers.
- Must pass TB test and fitness-for-duty exam.
