Microbiology Supervisor is responsible for the management and operation of the Microbiology Laboratory, including testing, implementing new procedures, managing investigations and deviations, and communicating results to management. The supervisor ensures regulatory compliance and supports the Microbiology staff and department.

Key Responsibilities:
Supervise personnel in the daily technical operations of the Microbiology lab. Ensure procedures are performed according to established SOPs, maintaining high standards of quality and timeliness. Promote a safe, cooperative, and professional healthcare environment, adhering to hospital policies and regulations. Prioritize customer service, treating patients, visitors, and co-workers with courtesy and tact. Follow safety protocols, use PPE, decontaminate surfaces, and comply with infection control, safety, and HIPAA regulations. Manage laboratory operations, including testing, LIS, scheduling, safety, inventory, and budgeting. Assist in hiring, training, evaluating staff, and ensuring performance appraisals are completed timely. Participate in performance improvement, accreditation, and safety initiatives. Develop and evaluate operational procedures to meet departmental and institutional goals. Supervise daily testing activities, monitor quality assurance, and ensure proper maintenance of equipment. Ensure corrective actions are taken for any deviations and that reports are generated accordingly. Verify staff competency, provide ongoing training, and ensure continuing education requirements are met. Review QC logs, patient results, and respond to inquiries and complaints professionally. Manage proficiency testing, ensuring samples are handled appropriately and data reviewed and submitted correctly. Coordinate staffing, scheduling, payroll, and maintain compliance records. Manage supplies, inventory, and specimen handling to ensure smooth operations. Maintain effective shift communication regarding pending tasks and compliance issues. Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology from an approved program. Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by New York State Education Department. Minimum 4 years relevant laboratory experience.
- Alternatively, a Master of Arts or Science in a related field from an accredited institution, qualifying as a clinical laboratory professional by New York State, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
