Job DetailsJob Location Castle Gardens (West Harlem) - New York, NY Position Type Full-Time Non-Exempt Salary Range $42000.00 - $47000.00 Salary/year DescriptionTitle: Recovery Peer Specialist Unit: Scattered Site Housing Reports to: Program Director/Manager Salary Range: $23.08 to $25.83 (approximately $42,000 to $47,000 annually) Status: Full Time, Regular, Non - Exempt Location: 645 West 140th Street, New York, NY 10031 Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm Position Summary: The Recovery Peer Specialist (RPS) will function as a role model, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, serve as an advocate providing peer support and resources to tenants served in senior housing. The RPS will also assist with inspiring, promoting empowerment and self determination to our participants. In addition, the RPS will assist with providing participants with opportunities for individuals to practice self-sufficiency through activities that emphasize the development and enhancement of life skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist tenants with identifying sustaining coping techniques and self-help strategies
  • Assist tenants with working with their Case Manager in determining steps deemed necessary to achieve treatment goals,
  • Assist Case Manager identify possible tenant barriers, interventions and treatment programs,
  • Escort tenants as needed for various appointments via public transportation,
  • Conduct follow-up with tenants via telephone outreach and/or home visits,
  • Assist tenants with understanding the team's recommendations geared towards their personal goals,
  • Assist with building confidence, which will support tenants with engaging in self-management skills,
  • Assist tenants with taking steps toward behavioral change,
  • Refer tenants to wellness services that are conducive towards strengthening their overall sustainability.
  • Assist with identifying and referring tenants to treatment programs that will address their substance usage.
  • Assist with coordinating to ensure that tenants are attached to a Primary Care Physician
  • Encourage tenants to participate in shared decision making and discussion with our Case Management team to enhance adherence to treatment plan.
  • Ensuring progress notes are entered into the database in a timely fashion,
  • Filing various information into the individual tenants' chart,
QualificationsQualifications:
  • Certification as a Certified Recovery Specialist,
  • Ability to travel throughout the 5 boroughs to escort clients on appointments via Public Transportation.
  • Ability to assist with educating tenants on their individualized treatment goals,
  • Ability to work under strict confidentiality and promoting HIPPA laws,
  • Ability to be receptive to feedback and supervision for development,
  • Knowledgeable with utilizing motivational interviewing and Trauma Informed techniques
  • Must be able to identify and build on the strengths of each individual tenant,
  • Must be able to network in partnership with other agencies to ensure that tenants receive best possible services conducive to their overall wellbeing.
  • Able to work with tenants from diverse backgrounds, who may suffer from mental health disorders and substance usage challenges.
Education - High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) Work Experience - Candidate must have at least two years' working as a Peer Specialist or in the field. Computer Skills - Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Communication Skills: Must be able to demonstrate excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills. Foreign Language Skills: - Written and verbal proficiency in Spanish preferred. General Work Behaviors/Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external individuals.
