Role: Peer Specialist

Location: Manhattan, NY 10029

Pay: $24.00/hour (Contract position starting at 13 weeks, potential for extension/perm conversion)

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. The hybrid split is based on need but typically 3 days in office, 2 days remote.

About the location:

CTI (Comprehensive Treatment Institute) is a location providing chemically dependent adults with an outpatient day treatment program including counseling, support groups and referrals.

The Peer Specialist facilitates engagement with teams by forging strong connections with participants and families, undertaking outreach activities designed to promote community awareness, encouraging help-seeking, and at times serving as a bridge between team members and participants when they experience ambivalence about treatment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Building: Forge authentic relationships with individuals and families through empathy, active listening, and collaboration.
  • Creative Narratives: Share and explore diverse perspectives on life experiences, fostering understanding and resilience.
  • Advocacy: Support program participants by advocating within the community and the team
  • Wellness Tools: Collaborate with participants to develop personal wellness plans, build life skills, and connect to resources.
  • Team Culture: Promote recovery-oriented language, youth-friendly approaches, and a positive, inclusive team environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Pursuit of Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) certification required (Provisional acceptable).
  • Preferred lived experience with mental health challenges, particularly psychosis during youth.
  • Minimum two years of experience in peer support, advocacy, or self-help programs.
  • Ability to relate to and connect with young adults.
