The unit has a total of 27 beds, divided into two sections for children and adolescents. Common diagnoses include ADHD, depression, mood disorders, and autism. Patients range from 5 to 17 years old, with an average length of stay of three weeks. Staff ratios are 1 nurse to 6 patients during days and nights, with a minimum of three nurses on the floor. Patient Care Technicians will assist in direct patient observation and care. Rounds are conducted every 15 minutes to ensure safety and engagement. Physical restraints are seldom used and will be addressed during orientation. Charge nurses and assistant nursing care coordinators manage the unit 24 hours a day. Travelers may assume charge roles if they have sufficient experience. Emergency situations may require minimal intervention from respiratory therapy. No specialized monitoring technology is used on this unit. Patient Care Technicians are expected to engage patients and encourage participation in activities. Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may lead to termination. Floating to other units may occur, primarily in psychiatric settings.
