The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing for the company. This includes, but is not limited to, auditing/editing employee time cards, calculating wages, ensuring the timely distribution of paychecks, maintaining payroll records, and staying compliant with all relevant federal, state, and local laws. The Payroll Specialist acts as a liaison between employees, management, and external agencies regarding all payroll-related matters. Schedule & Compensation: Plastech Corporation pays on a weekly basis. This position is 1st Shift, Monday thru Friday. Starting wage is $25.00 to $28.00 per hour, DOQ.Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Processing: Collect, verify, and record all payroll data including timecards, attendance, overtime, and deductions. Ensure accuracy in the calculation and distribution of wages, salaries, bonuses, and other compensation.
- Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll laws and regulations at federal, state, and local levels. Ensure all payroll activities are conducted in compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies.
- Reporting: Prepare and distribute regular payroll reports, including summaries of wages, deductions, taxes, and benefits. Provide analytics and data for audits and leadership as required.
- Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records, including employee profiles, pay histories, and tax documents. Ensure secure storage and proper destruction of sensitive information in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.
- Issue Resolution: Respond to employee inquiries about payroll matters, investigate and resolve discrepancies, and provide clear communication regarding pay and deductions.
- Benefits Administration Support: Coordinate with Human Resources to process benefit deductions, leaves of absence, and other employee status changes that impact payroll.
- System Management: Operate payroll software and systems efficiently. Update and maintain payroll systems and recommend improvements for process optimization.
- Audit Preparation: Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations regarding payroll transactions.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for workflow improvements and participate in the implementation of new payroll processes, systems, or policies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred. Relevant certifications (such as Certified Payroll Professional - CPP) are advantageous.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of payroll experience. Experience with payroll software (such as ADP, Paychex, or similar platforms) is required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Familiarity with HRIS and accounting software is a plus.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, wage and hour laws, and best practices in payroll administration.
