We work hard to inspire our diverse, well-rounded workforce and management team to perform at the highest levels of safety and professionalism.Position Summary Carver Companies is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support accurate and timely processing of a weekly payroll for our U.S. operations. This role will assist with compliance, reporting, and payroll system management (UKG, Sage), and act as a liaison between HR, Finance, and external agencies. The Payroll Specialist will work with the Payroll Manager and help ensure compliance with federal and state labor and tax regulations, while supporting the Payroll Director in high-level payroll functions, audits, and process improvements.Key Responsibilities Payroll Processing & Administration Assist with the end-to-end weekly payroll processing for hourly non-exempt employees across U.S. operations Aid in the processing and coding of hourly payroll for various Carver divisions Calculate and apply state-specific travel and incentive pay across multiple locations (SC, NY, etc.) Distribute weekly payroll reports to General Managers and Controllers in both Excel and PDF formats Responsible for maintenance of employee personnel files Process and track cash-in-lieu of health insurance benefits Other duties as necessary to assist the Payroll Manager with duties related to preparation and processing of payrollCompliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with New York State, South Carolina and Federal payroll laws, including wage and hour, tax, and recordkeeping regulations Assist with I-9 audits, direct deposit audits, and 401(k) loan reconciliations Track and manage deductions and 401(k) ledger Work with HR and Accounting to ensure compliance with labor laws, payroll regulations, and tax obligationsTeam & System Management Ensure timekeeping records are approved and accurate; follow up with managers as needed Implement changes from UKG into Sage and verify data accuracy Verify direct deposit information Support month-end payroll close and reporting in SageAudit & Special Projects Support audits related to payroll Assist with preparing verifications of employment (VOE) letters for employees and lenders Assist employees with payroll concerns and benefits catch-up issues Research and resolve payroll discrepancies or data entry errors Assist in streamlining processes to improve accuracy and complianceQualifications Associate's degree in accounting, Human Resources, or a related field preferred 2+ years of payroll experience with at least 1 year with a full cycle in house payroll Strong understanding of payroll best practices and multi-state compliance (NYS required) Proficiency with payroll systems (UKG, Sage, or similar) and Excel Accounts Payable experience a plusExperience with NYS Prevailing Wage and Davis Bacon experience a plusDetail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling confidential information with discretionCompensation & Benefits Competitive salary (per hour) - Estimated at $25.00 to $30.00 per hour based on experience.Medical insurance with company contributionDental and Vision insurance 401(k) with up to 8% company match Paid Time Off (PTO)Group Life InsuranceLong Term DisabilityVoluntary Life, Short Term Disability and LTD Buy-Up availableAFLAC availableEmployee Assistance FundEmployee-owned investment opportunityProfessional development opportunities Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
