CFS has partnered with a local food distribution company looking to add a Payroll Specialist to their growing Accounting team!

This Payroll Specialist position is located in the Bronx, NY. The days and hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 5:30PM and is an hourly paid position. Working with the company's payroll vendor, this position manages the processing of weekly payrolls for approximately 350 union and non-union employees, and ensures that employees are paid accurately and timely via import from the timekeeping system, and that statutory and non-statutory deductions are properly processed.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Import and verify work time records weekly from the timekeeping system (NovaTime).
  • Transmit payroll weekly to the payroll vendor
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll records by maintaining payroll database with updates in rate changes, tax withholdings, time off accruals, and other variables.
  • Initialize journal entries and balance out accounts for garnishments and child support orders.
  • Revise payroll profiles by inputting changes regarding union dues and fee deductions, garnishments and support orders
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests from employees and managers.

Education/Knowledge/Skills:

  • HS diploma/GED required, some college in Accounting or related field considered a plus.
  • 5+ years' previous experience processing payroll utilizing a major payroll vendor preferred but not necessary.
  • 2+ years in managing payroll process including employees.
  • Prior experience utilizing an automated time and attendance system is preferred.
  • Knowledge of New York state and federal wage and tax laws and overtime requirements would be helpful.
  • Proven customer service skills while maintaining a confidential work environment and ability to effectively communicate information to employees and management.
