Payroll Accounting Assistant - Laurel, MDAbout the Company and the Payroll Accounting Assistant Opportunity:
- CFS is partnering with a top client to hire a Payroll Accounting Assistant to join their growing accounting team on a contract to hire basis!
- The Payroll Accounting Assistant will work fully on site in Laurel, MD, Monday-Friday, primarily 9am-5pm, with some flexibility as needed.
- Candidates should ideally be flexible in hours for training purposes (able to come in 7:30am-9am depending on training schedule)
- Company offers free parking to its employees
- Reports to the Controller (who was placed by CFS!)
- Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 depending heavily on experience

Job Duties of the Payroll Accounting Assistant:
This role is responsible for accurate payroll processing, while also providing support to the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger tasks including:
- Process biweekly and monthly payroll for hourly and commission-based employees.
- Ensure payroll is compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records.
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with HR and management to track employee hours, commissions, and benefits.
- Assist with accounts payable and receivable functions, including data entry, invoice matching, and payment processing.
- Support month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Reconcile bank and general ledger accounts.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and spreadsheets as needed.
Qualifications of the Payroll Accounting Assistant:
- 2+ years' accounting/payroll processing experience (hourly and commission-based preferred) highly preferred. Solid understanding of payroll laws and regulations very beneficial
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles (debits vs. credits)
- Strong Excel skills required; knowledge of how to create pivot tables and vlookup required
- Experience using UKG or similar payroll software a plus
- Experience using Oracle NetSuite a plus
- Associates degree in a related field a plus, but not required
- Excellent attention to detail, patient, friendly, and strong organizational skills
- Comfortable working in a fast paced environment and under pressure
- Must be able to pass a background check!
