The Patient Service Representative serves as a front desk representative. Duties include daily office activities and monitoring office procedures. This position resolves problems through collaboration with the director, manager, and lead to ensure smooth operations.

Area of Responsibility

Duties & Responsibilities

Administrative/Greeter

  • Instantly acknowledges patients as they enter the clinic by making eye contact and welcoming them to the clinic.
  • Provides information to patients and visitors and others making inquiries at the front desk.
  • Operates multiple phone line system per appropriate established procedures.
  • Provides phone coverage for duration of scheduled shift as assigned.
  • Performs general filing, scanning, and typing as needed.
  • Schedules appointments as assigned.

Patient Accounts and Registration

  • Upon initial contact, interviews patient or their representative, to obtain demographic and billing information.
  • Assists patients in completing the appropriate registration forms.
  • Verifies insurance coverage eligibility and ensures insurance information is entered properly in the system; including current insurance card.

Scanning

  • Receives and digitizes daily files into appropriate folders.
  • Receives and digitizes patient documents into the electronic medical record system.
  • Assures integrity of the medical record by performing quality checks on scanned documents for proper entry and scanning.
  • Organizes the document images by indexing all scanned documents to proper locations within the electronic medical record.

Release of Information

  • Uses knowledge of hospital policies to verify requests for copies.
  • Coordinates with Healthcare Information Management department to provide copies of patient medical records for release of information to outside agencies and/or external physicians.

Office Duties

  • Keeping workspace tidy and free from clutter.
  • Ensure patient health information is always secure.
  • May be required to float to other departments or clinics for coverage.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience working in an office setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Two years patient service representative experience.
  • Associates Degree in business, communication, or other related field.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The responsibilities of this role are carried out in a traditional office setting. Primarily stationary with occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching carrying, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 20lbs. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation.

The employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay Range:

$20.00 - $35.00

Compensation: New hires should expect to start at the lower end of the range; actual pay offered will vary based on years of experience.
