** PATIENT SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE**

The Substance Abuse Treatment Program [SATP] at Montefiore is comprised of two opioid treatment programs, Unit I and Unit III, as well as an outpatient chemical dependency program named New Directions Recovery Center. SATP has been providing methadone treatment for opioid dependence for over 35 years. In addition to providing this empirically supported medication, SATP Units I and III offer cutting edge individual and group counseling to admitted patients. It also offers a one-stop shopping model of care owing to its onsite primary care services and chronic illness care, as well as mental health, nutritional and vocational services. SATP is seeking a Patient Service Representative.

Responsibilities:

* Act as liaison between Physicians and specialists in coordinating services. Assist in the day to day functions of MD sessions.

* Perform all clerical duties and other related duties in relation to preparation of billing. Open and close billing source documents for each patient visit. Verify bills are correctly sent to patient. Take monetary collections, post payments, reconcile daily cash collections, and make regular deposits.

* Answer telephone calls and route them to the appropriate staff member.

* Secure approvals of referrals including scheduling urgent appointments.

* Contact MMC departments for scheduling of specialist and invasive procedures. Notify patients of scheduled visits, inform patients of any preparation involved.

* Explain payment policies to patients depending on insurance secured at time of service.

* Schedule patient transportation and handle transportation issues; schedule patient appointments with other staff as necessary.

* Prepare clinical charts for monthly status reports. File record keeping.

* Obtain patient medical records and schedule appointments. Follow up on labs and tests ordered by provider. Pull charts and attaches labs for review.

* Assist providers with admissions to hospital or program. Interview new patients to register them on initial visit and collect / verify information regarding demographics, insurance coverage, and Medicaid payment status.

* Receive non-Medicaid patients to collect payment and / or insurance forms. Verify Medicaid eligibility and HMO status via EMEVS terminal. Issue patient encounter forms after verifying insurance information.

* Inform patient of current charges and outstanding balances and arrange full or partial payment.

* Conduct referrals as needed.

* Operate PC workstation for registration, scheduling, billing (Avatat, TREKS), CareCast system (obtaining lab results), fax machine, copiers, telephone and electronic Medicaid verification match.

Qualifications:

* High School Diploma/GED required

* At least 1 year of experience in healthcare preferably in registration, Scheduling, or Admission required.

* Knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorization, referrals & patient transportation, Diagnosis and associated test results preferred.

* Knowledge of Medicaid and Managed Care Plans preferred.

* Technical competence with CareCast, TREKS, AVATAR
