Introduction to Role

Are you ready to make a profound impact on patients' lives? As a Patient Education Manager (PEM) in Neurology for the New York region, you'll be at the forefront of patient engagement, education, and advocacy. This field-based role is pivotal in connecting with the patient community, conducting educational programs, and supporting infusion sites with expertise in REMS requirements and disease education. You'll empower patients and caregivers throughout their journey, addressing non-clinical barriers and serving as the primary source for regional patient community engagement activities. Collaborate with advocacy groups and Alexion field roles to develop strategies that ensure ongoing REMS compliance and enhance customer engagement.

AccountabilitiesPatient Engagement (50%)
  • Create and manage regional patient engagement plans including educational events and community interactions.
  • Deliver comprehensive disease state and product education to empower patients/caregivers.
  • Develop patient programming strategies tailored to optimize engagement and outcomes.
  • Share materials on disease, diagnosis, and treatment support with patients.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on infusion processes for Alexion products.
  • Capture and report local business insights to improve strategic plans.
  • Build relationships through advocacy groups and patient conferences.
  • Partner with Alexion Patient Advocacy Team to drive engagement.
  • Seek opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align patient education initiatives.
Infusion Site of Care Education & REMS Support (50%)
  • Conduct field visits at infusion centers for education on dosing, administration, and REMS requirements.
  • Support ongoing REMS certifications of infusion sites.
  • Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure REMS compliance.
  • Gather feedback to improve stakeholder experience.
  • Maintain records of field activities for regulatory compliance.
  • Support execution of compliance tactics related to REMS.
  • Partner with Commercial REMS team for strategy development.
  • Develop relationships with infusion nurses and staff to support patients.
  • Participate in non-prescriber congresses and educational events.
Essential Skills/Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years total business experience in healthcare or biotech industry.
  • BA/BS Degree required; nursing, allied health, healthcare administration preferred.
  • Previous experience with IV infused products.
  • Ability to travel up to 60-80% within territory; travel may include evenings/weekends.
  • Excellent presentation skills for diverse stakeholders in varied settings.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High initiative, solid work ethic, consistent accountability.
  • Success working within cross-functional teams in a field-based role.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
  • At least 3 years field-based experience in account management, sales, or patient education preferred.
  • Familiarity with legal/regulatory components of pharmaceutical/biotech industry; rare disease experience a plus.
  • Certification or training in REMS.
  • Strong understanding of REMS requirements and pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Bi-lingual proficiency in Spanish language.
  • Understanding of rare disease advocacy landscape.
  • Experience educating/supporting patients/caregivers.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to adapt in high-energy environment.
