A Brief Overview The Outpatient Patient Access Specialist I serve as the primary access point for patients seeking appointments with providers in clinical practices. This position is responsible for the gathering, entry and verification of registration information. In addition, this position is responsible for the effective scheduling of patient appointments in a timely and accurate manner. What will you do? Answers to incoming calls to support patients# needs, as well as making outgoing calls when necessary. Completes and verifies registration information for each patient: * Verifies patient identity per protocol. * Verifies address utilizing open-ended questions. * When scheduling new patients, is responsible for obtaining necessary information for insurance verification. * Ensures benefit verification process for current service date has been completed. Informs patients of expected co-pays as well as any outstanding self-pay balances. Workers are assigned work queues on a frequent basis throughout the day. Supports encounter prep, eligibility checks, appointments in queue to schedule, re-schedule, or no-show follow-up. Backs up and provides coverage for relief and absences as required. Demonstrates flexibility of work schedule/duty assignments. Transfers calls to appropriate clinical or clinic staff as necessary. Works effectively as a team member within a department and with patients to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration. Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies in processing and releasing patient information (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). Maintains communication with manager on a daily basis. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent with related course work Required# Completion of a clerical training or administrative support program Preferred Minimum 2 years experience clerical, customer service, or related experience such as medical office experience, or have received technical school training in practice operations.
