Barnes-Jewish Hospital is looking for a Full-Time Patient Access Rep I for our Emergency Department.

Schedule: MondayFriday, 3:00 PM 11:30 PM

Daily Pay Available

$750 Sign-On Bonus

Preferred Qualifications

The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for our patients and must represent BJC with the highest standard of customer service, compassion, and professionalism.

This role facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any BJC facility and requires a high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to make a personal connection.

This position significantly impacts the ability to maximize reimbursements and prevent denials through accurate collection of demographics, insurance information, benefit verification, and point-of-service collection.

Selecting the correct patient from the Master Patient Index (MPI) is critical to patient safety. This team member must possess a friendly demeanor, exceptional attention to detail, and maintain knowledge and competence with insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal, state, and accreditation agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to problem-solve a variety of situations, anticipating patients' needs and responding appropriately
  • Communicate in a professional, positive, and patient-focused manner with patients, families, and co-workerswhether in person, over the computer, or by phone
  • Ensure positive patient experience, maximize reimbursements, minimize denials and avoidable write-offs, and maintain the integrity of the patient's clinical, financial, and billing record by correctly selecting the precise MPI
  • Perform hospital registration and scheduling within multiple BJC systems
  • Assure proper patient identification, register, schedule, verify insurance, scan and retrieve documents
  • Validate that the order is complete, signed by the ordering provider, and the correct test is ordered
  • Provide patients with preparation instructions for scheduled procedures, educate on financial responsibilities, and collect applicable payments
  • Understand, articulate, and enforce hospital compliance with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO Requirements
  • Ensure each patient completes HIPAA acknowledgement
