The Patient Access Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring patients have an exceptional initial experience with our hospital. This position involves welcoming, greeting, and interviewing patients and/or representatives, either in person or over the phone. You will also collect necessary demographic and insurance information to facilitate proper billing and reimbursement.

Schedule: This is a full-time position, consisting of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST.

Location: Our office is located at O'Connor Hospital, 460 Andes Road, Delhi, NY 13753.

We offer 4-6 weeks of on-the-job training, tailored to your schedule and discussed during your first day of work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage with patients and families in person or via phone to complete the registration process by gathering patient demographics, health information, and verifying insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Input and verify patient data in real-time using computer systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Collect necessary clinical information for referrals, pre-certifications, and pre-authorizations according to insurance requirements.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, and create price estimates and re-verifications as necessary.
  • Collect patient co-pays and discuss their out-of-pocket financial obligations.
  • Identify and attempt to collect outstanding balances from prior visits.
  • Gather data directly from patients and refer them to provider offices to confirm and create scheduled appointments before hospital discharge.
  • Respond compassionately and respectfully to inquiries from patients and caregivers regarding routine and sensitive topics.
  • Generate, review, and analyze patient data reports, addressing issues and inconsistencies as needed.
  • Stay informed about specific registration requirements across various departments including Main Admitting, Outpatient, Emergency, Maternity, and Rehabilitation units.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (or higher).
  • 1+ years of customer service experience.
  • Willingness to work on-site at O'Connor Hospital, 460 Andes Road, Delhi, NY 13753.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in scheduling and authorizations.
  • Healthcare experience and clinical knowledge.
  • Availability to work evenings or weekends.

Work Environment:

  • Able to stand for long periods (up to 10 hours) while utilizing a workstation on wheels along with a phone/headset.

Pay for this position ranges from $16.00 to $27.69 per hour, depending on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws. Your total compensation includes a competitive salary and a wide array of benefits, all subject to eligibility requirements.
