Job description:
- Supports anatomic pathology services under the supervision of a Pathologist, including post-mortem and surgical specimen examinations.
- Performs gross description, dissection, and tissue selection for microscopic analysis (frozen, permanent, electron, and fluorescent).
- Manages specimen accessioning, identification, and preparation of containers/cassettes in compliance with pathology policies.
- Provides technical guidance, training, and competency assessment for residents in specimen handling and dissection.
- Handles gross photography of specimens and maintains related files.
- Oversee tumor procurement, documentation, quality assurance indicators, and related transactions for the biorepository.
- Participates in quality control of specimen identification, frozen sections, and maintenance of lab instruments/refrigerators.
- Maintains inventory, orders, and stocks supplies for frozen section room and surgical pathology lab.
- Performs autopsies, including external and internal examinations, organ dissection, tissue sampling, and data recording.
- Demonstrates strong customer service, teamwork, flexibility, openness to learning, and respect for diversity.
Required Education:
Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally accredited college/university is required.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologist's Assistant program.
OR
- Previous certification by the American Association of Pathologist's Assistant (AAPA).
OR
- Pathologist's Assistant certification as a PA (ASCP) is preferred.
