Job Overview:A distinguished law firm located in San Francisco, CA, is seeking a Patent Agent with a strong technical background in semiconductor technologies. The position involves working alongside IP attorneys to draft and prosecute patent applications related to advanced scientific innovations in the field. This role demands exceptional analytical skills, the ability to engage directly with inventors, and a deep understanding of patent prosecution processes, particularly in semiconductor device design and fabrication.
Duties:
Draft original patent applications with detailed technical descriptions.
Compose responses to communications from U.S. and international patent authorities.
Interpret technical disclosures and engage in in-depth discussions with inventors.
Collaborate with inventors and examiners throughout the patent prosecution lifecycle.
Assess inventions for patentability and prepare related documentation.
Investigate complex technologies and provide insight to legal teams.
Organize, review, and summarize technical and legal documents.
Maintain professional communication with clients, inventors, and patent office personnel.
Prioritize tasks efficiently under time-sensitive conditions.
Guide support staff on case-specific patent matters.
Remain current on industry developments and suggest relevant technological tools.
Perform additional responsibilities related to patent support and case development.
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years' experience in patent drafting and prosecution, specifically within the semiconductor industry.
Proven expertise in managing patent application processes from inception through final disposition.
Familiarity with U.S. and international patent office procedures.
Ability to independently evaluate and articulate complex technical matters.
Capacity to manage confidential data with professionalism and discretion.
Skilled in project management and time-sensitive decision-making.
Competency in standard office and patent-related software tools.
Comfortable working in a hybrid setup with regular in-office presence.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline, including:
Electrical Engineering
Physics
Chemical Engineering
Or other fields directly tied to semiconductor design or manufacturing
Certifications:
USPTO registration preferred, though not mandatory.
Skills:
Exceptional writing and verbal communication, particularly in translating technical concepts.
