Job Overview As a Pastry Commis, you will assist in the preparation and production of all pastry items, ensuring consistency, quality, and creativity in line with Palm House standards. - Assist in the preparation of desserts, pastries, breads, and other baked goods.
- Follow recipes and instructions from senior pastry team members accurately.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of pastry section and storage areas.
- Ensure mise en place is completed ahead of service.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Pastry Chef.
- Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and allergen protocols at all times.
- Support the team in maintaining high kitchen standards and smooth service.
- Participate in daily prep, service, and occasional menu tastings or development.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous kitchen experience preferred, ideally in a pastry or bakery role.
- Passion for pastry, baking, and dessert presentation.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Good time management and team collaboration skills.
- Basic understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene standards.
- Culinary qualification is a plus but not essential.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours per shift).
- Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying of ingredients, trays, and equipment (up to 20 kg/44 lbs).
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, knives, and pastry equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to work in a warm environment (near ovens, stoves, etc.).
- Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
