The Professional and Scholar Communities Applied Learning (PASCAL) Center Coordinator supports the strategic growth, daily operations, and developmental programming of scholarship communities at Colorado School of Mines. This full-time position collaborates across departments to enhance scholar engagement, retention, and success through events, advising, data tracking, and administrative support-while also providing part-time coordination for the Future Energy Scholars program within University Honors and Scholars.
Summary The PASCAL Center Coordinator supports the strategic growth and daily operations of designated scholarship communities at Colorado School of Mines. In this position, you will play a vital role in designing and implementing intentional, developmental programming that enhances student success and strengthens community. Aligned with the vision outlined in the university's Mines@150 plan, scholarship communities at Mines provide not only financial support but also a structured environment for learning, leadership development, and connection. In this job, you serve as an integral member of the PASCAL Center team, contributing to its mission of supporting scholars through intentional, impactful, and community-centered initiatives. The Coordinator assists in the operational aspects of assigned scholarship communities, including student selection and onboarding, ongoing engagement and support, retention, alumni involvement, and event planning and execution. You also collaborate closely with the PASCAL Center Director and Assistant Director to refine existing communities and help launch new ones. This work will involve partnerships with key campus offices, including the Mines Foundation, the President's Office, Enrollment Management, and Financial Aid. Through these efforts, you help advance the university's commitment to scholar success and inclusive excellence. Additionally, you provide part-time support to University Honors and Scholars (UHS) in stewarding and supporting the Future Energy Scholars program. Efforts include data collection and tracking, co-advising and curricular planning, and supporting programming and recruitment efforts. This is a full-time, 12 month exempt administrative faculty position. This position has some flexibility for hybrid work; on campus presence is required at least three days per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES Scholarship Communities Programming and Engagement The Coordinator collaborates with the Assistant Director and fellow team members to plan and execute scholar community programming throughout the academic year. Duties may include reserving event spaces, placing catering orders, negotiating contracts with guest speakers or lecturers, developing and facilitating workshops, managing student volunteers at events, and more. Programming should reflect PASCAL priorities and standards, along with any guidance, requirements, or expectations outlined for the specific scholarship community.
- Meets regularly with scholars, to provide guidance related to scholarship requirements and will connect students to appropriate academic resources as needed.
- Maintains a consistent and reliable presence at scholar events, including evenings and weekends, and assist with logistics such as setting up spaces, checking in guests, facilitating programming, and supporting post-event teardown and clean-up.
- Supports the VIP Professional Development program and the Mines Leadership Lecture Series, both of which are stewarded by the PASCAL Center.
- Maintains consistent communication with scholarship cohorts to share updates, promote upcoming events, and convey institutional announcements or other relevant information, and will also build and maintain relationships with campus partners, academic departments, donors (individual and corporate), the Mines Foundation, and faculty.
- Assists with tracking key data metrics, including student persistence and/or retention, academic progress, and other indicators that measure the impact, efficacy, opportunities, and trajectory of the PASCAL Center.
- Supports event-related data collection, including check-ins, attendee feedback, and cost tracking.
- Collaboration with Mines support offices-such as CASA, the Writing Center, Career Center, and Global Education-is essential to support and advance scholar programming and immersive learning opportunities.
Enroll and onboard new scholars - In collaboration with the Assistant Director, the Coordinator will assist with planning and coordinating virtual and in-person information sessions to promote scholarship opportunities to prospective students and families.
- May assist with recruiting campus partners and current scholars to support the application review process and help track reviewer feedback and other relevant data.
- Works with PASCAL leadership and current scholars to onboard new students through clear communication, thoughtful engagement with families, and orientation programming that helps scholars build early connections to the community.
Future Energy Scholars Program Coordination and Engagement in UHS - Collaborates with the Executive Director of UHS and Assistant Provost to plan and execute Future Energy Scholars (FES) programming throughout the academic year. Duties may include communicating with and scheduling guest speakers, working with faculty to support innovative curricula, co-facilitating workshops, and advising FES on research and applied learning opportunities to advance professional and academic leadership development.
- Tracks key data metrics, including academic and co-curricular progress to fulfilling the honors distinction alongside degree completion as well as the administrative management of honors enrichment awards.
- Maintains consistent communication with the FES cohorts to share updates and maintain the FES Canvas Site.
- Supports the recruitment process every spring to seat the new FES cohort. Working closely with the Executive Director, the coordinator will assist the faculty advisors and current scholars in the application review process and help track reviewer feedback and other relevant data.
- Supports website updates and works with the Executive Director on external marketing such as fliers, communication materials for donor/alumni networking, reporting, advertising the FES podcast, and other leadership/applied activities the scholars are doing for their audience of stakeholders.
Additional execution efforts - Supports the management and stewardship of scholar-related budgets, where appropriate.
- Assists in the collection and reporting of metrics that demonstrate impact, efficacy, opportunity, and scholar outcomes, including both internal and public-facing reports.
- Represents the PASCAL Center on institutional committees and externally to students, families, and the broader community.
- Supports Student Life programs and special events as needed and will collaborate with the Mines Foundation and donors on matters related to identified scholars and communities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in a relevant or related field from an accredited institution in higher education, student affairs, education, communication, business, or human development.
- Two or more years of professional experience with college students in an advising, mentoring, or leadership role. Two years of graduate-level coursework in a higher education setting may be considered equivalent to one year of professional experience.
- Experience in event planning and program management. Experience may be obtained through graduate-level or professional work.
- Experience with developing and executing presentations and workshops on topics such as professional development, leadership, academic success strategies, etc.
- Professional written and communication skills.
- Evidence of strong organizational and project management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Evidence of strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
- Experience with public speaking.
- Proficiency with office productivity suites, including Microsoft Office or similar interfaces.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - A master's degree in a relevant or related field such as counseling, higher education administration, educational leadership, educational psychology, etc., from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Experience with budget stewardship/accounting.
- Familiarity with donor stewardship and alumni engagement practices in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
- Experience with students in an engineering/applied science setting.
- Experience working with event planning software, mass communication platforms (GroupMe, Mailchimp, etc.).
- Experience working with applications and systems such as Banner, Slate, and/or Workday.
