Purpose & Scope
This individual contributor role will engage with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and their relevant staff members, serving as the account team subject matter expert for compliant access and reimbursement topics. With expertise in payer coverage, healthcare payment models, and utilization management criteria (i.e. Prior Authorization, Step Edits, other forms of precertification), this individual is a critical member of the Astellas matrix team serving patient and customer needs. The role requires establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal matrix teams and external customers to ensure Astellas Pharma Support Solutions' range of programs and offerings are appropriately utilized to support patients prescribed/administered Astellas products.
Responsibilities
- Proactively identify accounts in need of access and reimbursement support and educate HCP/office staff about Astellas programs that support patient access and affordability, and provider reimbursement.
- Effectively communicate support (utilizing MAP-approved messages, services, programs, and offerings) to address challenges/opportunities.
- Provide education on billing/coding and reimbursement (for buy-and-bill products)
- Assist offices with patient specific access challenges and liaise with the Patient Support Program (PSP) administrators and reimbursement HUB in a HIPAA-compliant manner.
- Maintains awareness of the evolving legal, regulatory and compliance environment to ensure ability to conduct business in accordance with Astellas Legal/Compliance guidance and policies.
- Develop relationships with key office staff within priority accounts to improve patient access and affordability and achieve defined customer engagement metrics.
- Establish cross-functional partnership with internal matrix teams (including Sales, Key Account Management, and Payer Account Management) to create and regularly update Account Business Plans and service the needs of customers:
- Operate as a pivotal member of the internal matrix team to advance strategic customer relationships towards true partnership at key accounts
- Appropriately exchange insights regarding real time market access dynamics, and patient access needs
- Proactively identify training needs related to patient access, reimbursement and affordability for internal partners and assist in delivery of appropriate education.
- Raise awareness of customer access and affordability issues and imperatives to leadership.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience within the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent business experience; including minimum of 3+ years in Sales, Account Management, or Field Reimbursement.
- 3+ years of experience in a therapeutic area relevant to the position, such as ophthalmology/retina, urology or oncology, demonstrating a strong understanding of the specific needs and challenges within assigned therapeutic field
- Customer focused mindset and demonstrated ability to provide timely response to customer requests per defined expectations.
- Buy-and-bill experience with knowledge of coverage, coding and reimbursement process for public and private payers, their respective systems and processes.
- Proven experience in working within and understanding the practice/reimbursement management environment in both offices and healthcare systems.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, including presentation skills.
- Strong executive presence and experience engaging and presenting to key customers.
- Experience navigating and partnering with leadership of complex organized customers (e.g. Private Equity Groups, integrated accounts).
- Direct experience in leading access / reimbursement strategy or active case management.
- Understanding of the complexities of buy and bill reimbursement and role model compliant and appropriate customer support through the process.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans that drive business outcomes and meet market demands.
- Track record of effective cross-functional team leadership without authority.
- Bachelor's Degree in science or business-related discipline.
- Must be willing to travel up to 70% of the time including overnight travel.
- Ability to travel on weekends as needed to attend strategic customer events such as conferences, business summits and other strategic events.
Preferred Skills
- MBA preferred.
- Direct experience and in-depth knowledge of oncology or retina community.
- Experience in pharmacy and medical benefit products.
- Existing customer relationships with retina or oncology and other customers commensurate with this role.
Working Environment
This position is field based within the assigned geographical region. Must be willing to travel up to 70% of the time including overnight travel.
Compensation Range
$155,000 - $222,000 (NOTE: Final Salary could be more or less, based on experience.) Flexible grade level based on candidate background and skillset.
