Certified - Secondary - Foreign Language - Spanish Job Number 230####### Start Date Open Date 01/09/2024 Closing Date Internal Candidate: Part-Time Spanish GED Teacher Job Description: This part-time teacher position will support refugees, immigrants, and native-born Spanish language learners towards obtaining a high school equivalency diploma by passing the GED exam in Spanish. This position requires mastery of the Spanish language and the ability to teach all four GED curriculum areas: Reasoning Language Arts (RLA), Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. The teacher must be well organized, can plan and adjust to the different language and ability levels, have excellent time management skills, and have the ability to work and establish positive relationships with all types of people. The position will be 2 days a week, 3 hours a day and may include distance learning as the program grows.Job Responsibilities:
  • Understand and promote knowledge of the GED curriculum and exam.
  • Identify students' educational barriers to success and create individual plans of success.
  • Work with Literacy Zone Case Managers to identify students' personal barriers to help them stabilize needs.
  • Teach students reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science curriculum geared towards foundational literacy, numeracy, and GED content.
  • Create and adjust curriculum, lessons, and instruction based on students' educational needs and GED content areas.
  • Differentiate instruction including use of technology, small groups, partnership, and one on one instructional support.
  • Accommodate for students with disabilities and personal needs as required under district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide classroom and behavior management through well planned lesson.
  • Understand and honor the diversity, equity and belonging of students' backgrounds, languages and individuality in our community and classes and incorporate them into the educational experience.
  • Teacher will perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
  • NYS Teacher Certified
  • Expertise knowledge of reading, writing, and oral language skills in Spanish, preferably Bi-lingual
  • Minimum 3 years' experience, with working with urban populations
