This is a part-time support staff position located at the VU Main site. This position provides general reference and research assistance in the operation and services of Shake Library, working in coordination with other library staff members and one or more student employees. Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist students, faculty, staff, and occasionally community patrons with their library research, including finding books and articles, using library online resources, and general computer and printing questions.
- Assist with various additional library operations as they arise, such as making sure the library is orderly and quiet. This can also include various circulation tasks as well as answering the telephone and Ask-A-Librarian web chat queries.
- Provide record keeping, make change and count money, help with library reports, open and close the library, and other clerical tasks as specified by the Public Services Librarian.
- Responsible for other duties as specified by the Public Services Librarian and Director of Library Services.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
- The candidate should have general knowledge of computer technology, printing and scanning equipment, and academic research skills.
- The candidate should be a conscientious individual willing to work with a wide range of library patrons from diverse backgrounds and be interested in helping students succeed.
- The Candidate should be a self-starter, possess a strong service attitude, have the ability to keep confidences, and show a willingness to help others while projecting a positive image as a representative of Shake Library and Vincennes University.
