The Prince William Department of Social Services Homeless Services program is seeking an energetic part-time Human Services Caseworker Associate for our Homeless Services Drop-In Center in the Ferlazzo Emergency Shelter. We are located in Woodbridge, Virginia, and operate 24/7, 365 days per year. As a Human Services Caseworker Associate, you will be part of a team that will oversee the daily shelter operations of the drop-in center to ensure we provide a safe, clean, and supportive environment for our customers. We are currently seeking someone who can work Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and alternate Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To maintain a consistent 4-day workweek, the Saturdays that are not worked will need to be replaced with a shift on either Tuesday or Thursday. About This Role: The Human Services Caseworker Associate is responsible for providing high-level customer service for unhoused individuals who come to the Homeless Services drop-in center or the 24/7 emergency shelter. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing client intakes and conducting basic assessments to determine clients' housing and other needs, before providing referrals to programs/agencies for additional services. The Human Services Caseworker Associate will also serve meals (sometimes prepared by outside groups but distributed by staff), shop monthly for food and supplies, and assist volunteers and community partners in carrying out their programs. To help maintain a safe environment for both clients and staff, the Human Services Caseworker Associate will also engage with clients to prevent conflicts or help deescalate them and assist in resolving issues in a constructive way. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience working in a shelter, residential, or group home setting. Preferences:
- Three or more years of experience working in an emergency homeless shelter, residential setting/program, drop-in center, or home health service.
- Two years of experience managing and de-escalating crisis situations.
- Two years of experience supervising the work of volunteers.
Special Requirements (if applicable):
- All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
- Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks.
- Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept. of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
- Staff in this position cannot perform their job by teleworking.
- Staff in this position must be able to report to work in inclement weather or other states of emergency.
