The hourly pay for this part-time position is $20/hr, depending on experience and geographic area.
- This role is governed by the U.S. Department of Labor Service Contract Act (SCA). Along with hourly pay, a Health and Welfare stipend of $4.98 per hour will be provided for up to 40 hours per week.
- Participants will receive pay for up to 10 holidays, annual vacation time payout, and access to an employee discount program.

Responsibilities include:
- Traveling frequently to recruit participants for studies.
- Engaging in-person contact with respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and secure participation.
- Collecting confidential data and administering standardized questionnaires.
- Managing administrative tasks independently, including participating in conference calls and completing online training.
- Timely data transmission as scheduled.
- Taking full responsibility for project-issued equipment.
- Safeguarding participant incentives and project materials against damage, loss, or theft.
- Accurate tracking of participant incentives.
- Submitting accurate Time & Expense reports promptly.
- Attending virtual meetings with the project team.
- Approaching selected households without prior appointments.
- Working and driving during evenings and weekends.
- Participating in weekly meetings with the Field Supervisor.
RTI International seeks enthusiastic Part-Time Field Data Collectors for the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), a crucial government-sponsored research study ongoing since 1971. This research provides vital updates on substance use, mental health, and other health-related issues in the United States.
As a Field Data Collector, you will connect with households to convey the importance of participating in the NSDUH. Successful applicants will be self-motivated, outgoing, and adaptable to a flexible schedule, primarily when respondents are available. The ideal candidate is excited about long-term career prospects and passionate about their community's health and well-being, preferring outdoor work over an office environment.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- At least 21 years old at the time of employment.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Strong communication skills, both spoken and listened.
- Fluency in English in reading, writing, and speaking.
- Available for the entire training and data collection period.
- Successful completion of training is required.
- A valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for work use.
- Comfortable using RTI-issued tablets, laptops, and other equipment.
- Access to a secure WiFi connection for data transmission.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of project information.
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and during evenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Positive, self-motivated individuals who enjoy engaging with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Effective management skills for time, schedules, and workload meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in computer usage, including email and internet skills.
- Comfortable navigating unfamiliar areas.
- Ability to maintain required system updates and complete administrative tasks.
- The data collection period is expected to begin in September 2025.
- On average, you will work part-time for approximately 25 hours per week when available.
- Availability for fieldwork 4 days each week is necessary.
- Work primarily during evenings and weekends.
- Each field visit is expected to last at least 4 hours.
All new hires must complete a paid virtual training program. Training includes:
- Completion of pre-training courses.
- Participation in a 5-day virtual training program consisting of: 4 hours of live instructor-led training through Zoom, 2-3 hours of independent online tasks, plus 2 hours of live Zoom assistance for additional help.
- Pass a certification demonstrating competency in conducting NSDUH interviews post-training.
- All training activities are mandatory.
