Title: Accounting Intern Location: Washington, DC Salary: Paid hourly, flexible availability of at least 20-25 hours per week Reports to: Senior Accountant, Director of Finance, CFO Position Overview Tuckernuck is looking for an Accounting Intern that will be responsible for the day-to-day financial activities that comprise the Company's General Ledger. The Accounting Intern will help manage the Company's accounts payable transactions and communicate important details to the finance team. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in reconciling and entering invoices, maintaining vendor records, and assisting with other financial tasks. The Accounting Intern will play an important role in keeping our company's financial outlook bright with attention to detail and proactive measures. Core Responsibilities The Accounting Intern is responsible for the following areas:

  • Enter vendor invoices, credit memos, and expense reports into our accounting system
  • Match invoices to purchase orders and receipts; flag discrepancies for review
  • Maintain and update vendor master files (addresses, contact information, W-9 forms)
  • Assist with month-end close tasks
  • Support ad-hoc projects to improve AP workflows and reporting accuracy
Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a four-year college degree program is required. Majors in Accounting, Finance, Management or Business are appropriate.
  • Two or more semesters of accounting are required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Proficient knowledge of accrual accounting
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Windows®, Word ®, and Excel®, experience with NetSuite is a plus
  • The maturity to deal with sensitive and confidential information professionally
  • The ability to perform a high volume of transactions accurately with limited supervision
  • Comfort in dealing with new technology and systems
