The Woonsocket Education Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to support our students and educators in creating an inclusive, engaging, and effective learning environment. The Paraprofessional will work under the supervision of certified teachers to provide instructional and behavioral support to students, including those with special needs, in various classroom settings. This role requires a valid Paraprofessional certification and a commitment to fostering student growth and achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Support: Assist teachers in delivering lessons by working with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning objectives, clarify instructions, and provide additional practice.
- Student Supervision: Monitor students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and other school-related activities to ensure safety and compliance with school policies.
- Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management strategies and support students with individualized education plans (IEPs) or behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to promote positive behavior and engagement.
- Classroom Assistance: Prepare instructional materials, maintain classroom organization, and assist with administrative tasks such as grading or record-keeping as directed by the teacher.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to support student needs and contribute to a positive school culture.
- Student Support: Provide one-on-one assistance to students with disabilities or special needs, including academic, social, and self-care support, as outlined in IEPs.
- Data Collection: Track and report student progress, behavior, or other relevant data to assist teachers in assessing student performance.
Qualifications
- Education and Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
- Valid Paraprofessional certification (e.g., ParaPro Assessment or equivalent state-approved certification) is mandatory.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting is preferred, particularly with students with diverse learning needs.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with students, teachers, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
- Ability to follow instructions and implement teacher-directed plans.
- Basic knowledge of classroom technology and instructional tools.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying classroom environments and student needs.
