Packer job at Defense Logistics Agency, Washington DC. Telework Eligible

Major Duties
  • Performs tasks involved in packing and repacking non-hazardous and hazardous materials, selecting proper containers and methods, and following specialized procedures.
  • Examines prepackaged items to determine if repacking or over-packing is needed, consolidates shipments, and applies certification, identification, and shipping data.
  • Uses various packing techniques, including blocking and bracing, in accordance with regulations for hazardous materials.
  • May pack, preserve, or re-pack materials using standard techniques and procedures.
  • Performs receiving, storing, shipment, and distribution of supplies and materials using material handling equipment such as forklifts and stock selectors.
    • Qualification Summary

    Applicants will be rated based on the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Experience and training that demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills are required. Volunteer work and unpaid experience are also considered. Emphasis is on the quality of experience rather than duration.

    Physical Effort

    Work involves standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring positions. Frequently lifts items up to 40 pounds; heavier items up to 70 pounds with assistance or equipment. Moderate to heavy pulling is required for securing loads.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed inside warehouses and outdoors in all weather conditions. Conditions may be cold, hot, dusty, or greasy, and involve exposure to mechanical hazards and potential injuries from falling objects or shifting loads.
