Euclid Ave., Bay City, MI 48706.Job SummaryThe Packaging & Warehousing Manager is responsible for managing dry sugar handling, packaging, warehousing and shipping operations efficiently to minimize costs and maximize productivity.Primary Responsibilities
- Supervision & Staffing
- Supervise employees in packaging, warehousing, and shipping operations.
- Ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreement (CBA)
- Manage hiring, onboarding, and internal promotion processes to ensure optimal staffing levels.
- Manage employee complaints, grievances, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies and CBA
- Train employees on:
- Job-specific procedures
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Food Safety protocols
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Enforce/Maintain compliance with:
- Michigan Sugar's safety policies and personnel policies
- MIOSHA regulations
- Occupational Health & Safety standards
- 21 CFR Part 110 (Current Good Manufacturing Practices)
- The “Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002”
- Ensure accurate maintenance of required documentation related to food traceability.
- Maintain segregation protocols for:
- Food-grade and non-food-grade lubricants
- Cleaning chemicals
- Non-conforming products
- Food Safety & Quality Assurance
- Adherence to Safe Quality Foods (SQF) and American Institute of Baking (AIB)
- Support the Food Safety Committee as an active member.
- Provide food safety training (SQF / AIB):
- Upon hire for new employees
- Annually for all warehouse employees
- Implement and monitor the HACCP program:
- Ensure proper functioning of screens, magnets, and metal detectors
- Apply corrective actions per HACCP procedures
- Coordinate with the Sanitation Manager and FSQA Coordinator to ensure adherence to sanitation protocols.
- Ensure pest control procedures comply with Michigan Sugar, AIB & SQF standards
- Administer the glass and brittle plastic control program with periodic documented audits.
- Conduct and document mock product recalls every six months.
- Investigate customer complaints regarding packaging quality, identify root causes, and document corrective actions.
- Facility & Equipment Management
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to maintain equipment and warehouse facilities, including silos.
- Ensure plant housekeeping is maintained through monthly self-inspections under the Sanitation Self-Inspection Program.
- Conduct annual inspections of employee lockers.
- Shipping, Receiving & Documentation
- Ensure COAs (Certificates of Analysis) are provided with shipments when required.
- Inspect and document all shipping vehicles prior to sugar pick-up.
- Inspect and document incoming deliveries of ingredients and packaging materials.
- Ensure storage practices align with AIB standards:
- Maintain an 18-inch perimeter between stored goods and walls.
- Oversee stock rotation to prevent excessive product or material aging
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Management and/or 3 to 5 years of equivalent relevant experience, preferred in manufacturing, production or packaging and warehousing operations.
- Commitment to achieve and promote a high level of safety awareness.
- Computer experience with the knowledge of Microsoft office, PeopleSoft, and Rapid software or similar.
- Ability to plan and organize priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
- Management and development of supervision and leadership through training, coaching and evaluations.
- Complete the following training: Preventive Controls for Human Food or HACCP, Michigan Sugar Company's Food Safety and Quality Systems, General factory safety requirements (Right to Know), Food-related Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
