Position Type: Custodial/CustodianDate Posted: 2/2/2024Location: Learning CenterDate Available: 04-01-2024 Job title:CustodianReports to:Principal, Assistant Principal, or DirectorReceives guidance from:Principal, Assistant Principal, Director, District Administration, or Assistant SuperintendentOvertime status: Compliant with position, salary and FLSA regulations Job purpose: In keeping a tradition of excellence, the Custodian will provide students, staff, and guests with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop. Duties and responsibilities:
  • Attend meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions
  • Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas, neat and clean at all times
  • Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
  • Raise and lower the US flag
  • Sweep classrooms daily and dust furniture
  • Monitor activities in and around work areas for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety; reporting any concerns immediately
  • Clean corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it
  • Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilets floors daily, and clean and sanitize fixtures and drinking fountains daily
  • Wash windows both inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary
  • Keep the grounds free from rubbish
  • Perform such yard keeping chores such as grass cutting and tree trimming as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition (as assigned)
  • Keep floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
  • Make minor building repairs
  • Maintain on a regular schedule motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing
  • Report immediately to the principal any damage to school property
  • Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and extended work hours have been approved
  • Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that doors and windows are secured, and lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off
  • Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisition such needed replacements from the principal, or designee, far enough in advance to allow delivery in such time as will not hinder the educational process
  • Replenish classroom and restroom supplies for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily use
  • Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed
  • Perform summer maintenance (strip/wax floors, move furniture, paint, etc.)
  • Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee
  • and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
  • Secure facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.
  • Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Regular, dependable, in person attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position

  • Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy
  • Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by RCSD, and Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct
Qualifications:
  • Education Level: HIgh school diploma or GED
  • Other Requirements: Pass the agility test, prefer prior related experience, and specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc.; and adhering to safety practices. Knowledge is required to perform multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning; safety practices and procedures; and English. Ability is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions. Responsibilities include working under direct supervision using standardized routines, and providing information and/or advising others.

Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
