POSITION SUMMARY:Performs intermediate level technical communications work under regular supervision from a technical superior.STARTING SALARY HIRING RANGE:$29.29 - $36.12$60,923 - $75,130CLASS DESCRIPTION:Performs senior technical level information, technology and communication services work, which may include supervisory responsibility, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work may include testing, updating, maintaining, and providing training on mainframe client servers and microcomputer software and hardware; responds to more complex help desk requests; managing and controlling the use of the computer-aided dispatch system; or managing the installation and maintenance of radio, telephone, data and related electronic equipment; or work may also include skilled illustration and graphic design; producing television programs and public service announcements; or coordinating public information program activities.
  • Ensures reliable operation of County 800 MHz and other radio equipment, including tower, mobile and hand-held equipment. Orders repairs, additional equipment, upgrades, services and all other resources as needed to meet operational requirements of public safety and other user agencies.
  • Maintains inventory of all radio assets and assigned users and dispenses and recovers equipment as needed.
  • Programs subscriber radios and system control/configuration equipment;maintains radio programming templates, and radio, asset, identification, and other related databasesto schedule vehicle installation of 800 MHz radios. Provides a standard to all installation of communications devices in County equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with government regulations concerning installation and operation of County radio equipment. Maintains continuous licensing of wireless systems, including the 800 MHz system.
  • Participates in operation, configuration, testing, and development of all types of police, fire, or other County radio communication systems.
  • Provides and maintains readiness of operational support for public safety as requested to enable interoperability and functional incident communications.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This job has no supervisory responsibilities.Associate's Degree and two (2) years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of a formal training program.PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE.
