The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 19,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.REPORTS TO: Corcoran School Principal, Director of CTEOVERVIEW:Corcoran High School is one of SCSD high schools with Career and Technical Education (CTE), offering four CTE pathways and one P-TECH pathway. Students have the opportunity for mentorships, internships, and job shadowing in a range of fields. Through the rigorous academic program at Corcoran, students will develop the self-discipline that will help them thrive in college and careers and will make them community leaders in Syracuse and beyond. The school offers P-TECH Semiconductor Microchip Technology, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Refrigeration Clean Energy(HVACR), Manufacturing Technology Pre-apprenticeship, Welding, and Urban Teacher Preparation. Partners include Micron and Onondaga Community College.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Candidates will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:
  • Deliver performance-based objectives and outlines for course of study following NYSED curriculum guidelines and requirements.
  • Organize practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in the Electrical-Electronic Technology professions, lectures in theory, techniques, and terminology.
  • Willingly seek approval to teach concurrent enrollment/college-level coursework.
  • Reinforce a high level of integrity with students as they acquire technical skills in: Electrical-Electronic Technology.
  • Cater instruction to align with 4-year curriculum.
  • Engage with community members and post-secondary partners to update curriculum as needed.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver engaging curriculum that aligns with industry standards and prepares students for future careers.
  • Experience in integrating hands-on, experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum, such as internships, cooperative education, and project-based learning.
  • Proficiency in utilizing relevant technologies and tools related to the CTE field (e.g., fundamental electrical, mechanical, and programming skills, using common electrical diagnostic tools, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effectively conveying complex concepts and providing constructive feedback to students.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students and foster an inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing resources, planning lessons, and coordinating industry partnerships or guest speakers.
  • Commitment to staying current with industry trends, advancements, and certifications relevant to the CTE pathway.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues, industry professionals, and community partners to enhance student learning experiences and expand opportunities for student success.
  • Relevant teaching certification or licensure, if applicable, and a passion for inspiring and empowering students to pursue their career goals in the chosen CTE pathway.
  • Willingness to obtain the necessary certification for teaching in a CTE pathway and underscores the candidate's dedication to meeting the qualifications required for the position.
  • Meet requirements to qualify for and then earn a Transitional A teacher certificate from the New York State Education Department, which permits the employment of an individual in a specific career and technical education title who does not meet the requirements for a standard certificate but possesses the requisite occupational experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The ideal candidate must have at least two years of professional experience in the Electrical or Electronic technology sector, or hold a Technology teacher degree from the New York State.
  • Associate's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related technical field or higher degree.
  • At least 2-5 years of demonstrated success in Semiconductor Microchip Technology or Electrical and Electronic Engineering (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced student-centered environment.
  • Meet requirements to qualify for and then earn a Transitional A teacher certificate from the New York State Education Department, which permits the employment of an individual in a specific career and technical education title who does not meet the requirements for a standard certificate but possesses the requisite occupational experience. SALARY/SALARY RANGE:
  • The current starting salary for SCSD Teachers is $53,000. With proof of outside related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
  • Teachers will have opportunities to teach in our Summer School Programs, receiving an hourly rate of $42.69.
