Job DetailsJob Location Community Outreach VESL HUB YFO CYB - Hayward, CA Position Type Full Time Salary Range $23.61 - $24.23 Hourly Travel Percentage Up to 25% Job Shift Day DescriptionPOSITION OVERVIEW: As the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Community Outreach Services With Us Initiative at La Familia, this position will support the coordination and implementation of project activities related to youth mental health promotion of emotional, behavioral, and any self-seeking stigma behaviors. The Community Outreach Coordinator will support in capacity-building, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Community Outreach Coordinator will liaise with government and community partners and community residents strategically to advance scalable strategies to increase the behavioral health literacy among vulnerable community members across different neighborhoods and cities. As part of the Community Outreach Services Department, the Community Outreach Coordinator will contribute to the developing positive work culture of the department by demonstrating leadership and enthusiasm in work performance and for working with a dynamic team. This role will uphold and champion the agency's mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:Community Organizing & Public Policy:
  • Participates in all assigned parts of approved work plan elements, including:
  • Cultivating and maintaining effective, collaborative working relationships with residents and youth, government personnel, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders from selected geographic areas to be involved in public policy campaigns and related topics focusing on mental health literacy and stigma reduction within youth.
  • Providing outreach, engagement, leadership, and support delivered in the forms of comprehensive public education and change campaigns that are culturally responsive, scalable, and leads to increased behavioral health literacy in Alameda County.
  • Promoting initiative aims and civic engagement through grassroots techniques, youth engagement, and internal Town Halls.
  • Participating in all project/coalition meetings and regularly participating in sub-committee meetings as assigned/created.
  • Implementing coalition communication plans and participating in new member orientations
  • Designing, coordinating, and facilitating meetings, training, education, and presentations for youths and communities to reduce mental health stigma.
  • Planning special events in collaboration with youth and community residents (e.g., volunteer days, environmental scans, etc.) for the purpose of meeting project activities and objectives
  • Maintaining appropriate representation of oneself, La Familia, and the initiative at the City, County, and State levels by attending County Board of Supervisors/City Council meetings, other project-related collaborative meetings, and effectively navigating the current state of initiative-related politics.
  • Building a culture of advocacy and activism in the service area and surrounding areas through civic engagement, leadership development and mentorship.
  • Supporting an equitable post COVID-19 recovery by empowering residents to advocate for the resources and funding needed for economic stability and culturally responsive access to mental and physical health in order to address the deep disparities and stigmas within our service areas.
  • Providing technical assistance to various grassroots community groups in the service areas.
Administrative & Work Plan Implementation
  • Maintains and updates various project documents, including coalition member documents, meeting agendas & minutes, etc.; and acts as primary point of contact for all youth participants and other coalition members
  • Provides day-to-day management, support, and progress-tracking of activities assigned to youth participants and youth resident leaders acting in a volunteer capacity
  • Gathers community data in the fashion of one-on-ones and small group sessions to support project activities and objectives
  • Monitors County Board of Supervisors/City Council, community groups, and other meeting agendas, and provides adequate, timely reports to youth leaders and other liaisons for meetings attended
  • Assists in preparing draft documents for campaigns and other mental health stigma awareness materials
  • Assists in writing and preparing drafts of all reports necessary to maintain funding
  • Coordinates and maintains social media presence for the collaborative and its initiatives
Other:
  • Provides input and feedback on potential related projects/programs as appropriate
  • Collaborates on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate
  • Implements program policies and procedures as directed by supervisor
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor
  • This position has no staff supervision responsibilities
  • This position work schedule requires working occasional evenings and weekends
  • Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas
  • Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate
  • This position does not include supervision of staff
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • BS/BA Degree in the mental health field, or social services and/or 4 years community outreach, education/experience
  • 2 years of experience in mental health field or community outreach
  • Spanish Bilingual Preferred
  • Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates and models excellent customer service orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.
  • Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed.
  • Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance and transmit public and confidential information needed by various parties.
  • Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
  • Valid CA Driver's license
  • Auto insurance: Personal vehicle may be used for business related purposes; it is recommended you inform your auto insurance carrier.

  • Knowledge of community resources for client referrals.
  • Attends work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Provides adequate notice to supervisor and management with respect to vacation time and time-off requests.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues including client confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of client care and department functioning.

WORKING CONDITIONS and JOB SETTING:
  • May be required to work some evenings and/or weekends
