Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Orthopedic Surgeon to the group at Kings County Hospital. Kings County Hospital operates a world-renowned Level 1 Trauma Center, one of only three in Brooklyn, which serves 2.6 million residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island. The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.

Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being Afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.

The orthopedic hand and or upper extremity fellowship trained surgeon provides surgical and non-surgical care to complex orthopedic pathology including those patients with complex hand, wrist, forearm, elbow and shoulder fractures, complex intra-articular fractures, bone defect and upper extremity limb lengthening surgery, treatment of osteomyelitis, non-unions, and other complex pathologies requiring advanced knowledge and skill including shoulder and elbow arthroplasty. A rapidly increasing number of shoulder arthroplasties are being performed each year for traumatic and degenerative disease. The surgeon will also perform microvascular procedures as required for a level I Trauma center, and assist other surgical services in microvascular procedures. The individual will provide currently acceptable standards of advanced care of these complex orthopedic pathologies consistent with the requirements and standards of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. This individual will also be the Director of the Orthopedic Upper Extremity Service. The individual will participate in the on-call schedule for orthopedic surgery, be available for trauma consultation for complex upper extremity injuries with vascular injuries or compartment syndrome.

  • Outpatient and inpatient surgical and non-surgical care for complex hand, wrist, forearm and elbow pathology and appropriately designated upper extremity injuries as noted above.
  • Chief of the Orthopedic Hand Service
  • Responsibility for Quality Programs required by the hospital, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons
  • Teaching of Orthopedic Surgery residents
  • Review of Orthopedic Consultations from the Emergency Department and in-patient services
  • Departmental administration as required
  • Plan and perform surgery on complex orthopedic cases including hand fractures, wrist and forearm fractures, intra-articular fractures, other complex injuries of the upper extremity.
  • Participation in the emergency call schedule for orthopedic surgery.
  • Participation in the ACS trauma multi-disciplinary activities, including data collection and compliance issues required for a level I trauma center including microvascular coverage.
  • Teaching orthopedic surgery residents, medical students, physicians assistants and other personal.
  • Quality initiatives.
  • Critical review of orthopedic hand trauma consultations seen in the Emergency Department and In-Patient units.

  • Current licensed NYS registration certificate
  • Graduate of approved medical school (Orthopedic Residency and Upper Extremity/Shoulder Fellowship or a Hand Surgery Fellowship)
