The Operations Manager provides the leadership in staffing and operations. The individual will work closely with the Board of Directors to support museum operations and programming, including facilities maintenance, fundraising, exhibition development, educational activities, community outreach, and public relations. These duties will require flexibility of work hours to include weekends and evenings as required. The Museum Board Treasurer will serve as the immediate supervisor and shall provide an annual performance review.

Reports To: Board Treasurer

Classification: Part time (25-30 hours per week is typical)

Work Schedule: Flexible but will include being onsite during museum operation hours

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations
  • Establishing and documenting protocols
  • Support school programs, and exhibition installation and de-installation
  • Support in fundraising activities, including developing relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors
  • Support development of fundraising plans
  • Develop strong partnerships in the community. Enhance the museum's public image
  • Manage, secure and maintain the property and facilities of the museum
  • Works with local networks in the arts and culture community to identify and cultivate collaborative programs with independent curators and institutional partners

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • BA or MA in History, Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, Cultural Studies, or a related field
  • Knowledge of Chinese history, culture, and language
  • Professional experience in nonprofits, public sector, or related field of at least 3-5 years
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and public speaking
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively, diplomatically, and effectively with boards, volunteers, and in community relations
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, as well as to work successfully with Museum staff, volunteers, and diverse public constituencies
  • Competence in managing Museum operations, including personnel matters
  • Proficiency with Google Drive and its software
