NYC Parks GreenThumb provides technical assistance, educational workshops, operational support, and materials to community gardens throughout New York City. Supporting over 550 community gardens and 20,000 volunteer gardeners, GreenThumb is the largest community gardening program in the country. The GreenThumb Operations (GTO) team performs landscaping work, garden renovations, and material deliveries. GTO also manages citywide supply and plant distributions, special projects such as fencing, signage, sidewalk and water installations, and oversees rat abatement and property management. Employees who work for 6 months or longer are eligible for healthcare benefits. All seasonal employees earn sick and annual leave. All employees receive free membership to our recreation centers.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES - Under supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, support operational and administrative functions at GTO. - Assist with the development and coordination of the GTO work schedule. This includes monitoring project progress; equitably selecting upcoming work; communicating with community gardens and GreenThumb staff; and use of GreenThumb's Database and Parks Asset Management Parks System (AMPS) programs. - Support purchasing and receiving of materials and services for GreenThumb. - Assist and lead coordination of one or more contracts, such as rat abatement, forestry, or others, by liaising with vendors and agencies, creating schedules and communicating with gardeners and GreenThumb staff. - Serve as the point person for processing work orders and scheduling; front desk duties such as answering phones, office organization, file storage, receiving packages, etc.; preparing reports and completing documentation; and supporting distributions and other events.
