Job Summary:

The Operational Technology Network Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of industrial network infrastructures, ensuring smooth communication between Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) systems. This role is critical for supporting smart factory initiatives, automation systems, and reliable industrial control networks, emphasizing security and compliance with regulatory standards. Collaboration with production teams, IT staff, and cybersecurity experts will be essential to maintaining a secure and efficient manufacturing environment.

Position Details:

  • Location: Saukville, WI or Cleveland, OH
  • Schedule: Hybrid role, requiring 3 days per week in the office
  • Travel: Up to 5% travel between locations
  • Relocation: Benefits available

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Architecture & Integration:
    • Design and deploy industrial network architectures for MES, SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, and IIoT environments.
    • Configure and maintain industrial Ethernet, VLANs, and segmented networks.
    • Integrate OT and IT networks to secure data transfers between production and enterprise systems.
    • Implement zero-trust architecture to safeguard PLCs, robots, IoT devices, and SCADA components.
  • System Monitoring & Performance:
    • Develop tools for continuous monitoring of OT network performance.
    • Optimize network performance for high availability and real-time machine communication.
    • Diagnose and resolve issues impacting network performance.
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISA/IEC 62443, NIST, and ISO 27001.
    • Conduct security audits, vulnerability assessments, and manage updates for industrial systems.
    • Develop incident response plans for network failures and cyber threats.
    • Implement backup and recovery strategies for network configurations.
  • Operational Support & Troubleshooting:
    • Provide technical support for plant engineers, maintenance, and IT teams.
    • Troubleshoot connectivity issues in 24/7/365 operations.
    • Assist with integration of new plant equipment through network architecture and configurations.
  • Documentation & Change Management:
    • Maintain detailed network diagrams, security policies, and compliance documentation.
    • Document configurations and troubleshooting processes.
    • Develop Management of Change (MoC) processes for OT systems.
  • Data & System Integration:
    • Support data architecture across SCADA, MES, ERP, and business intelligence systems.
    • Implement critical system solutions in continuously operating environments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in network administration, IT/OT systems, or industrial automation.
  • Strong understanding of network fundamentals including TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching.
  • 3+ years of experience with industrial network protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherNet/IP, Profinet).
  • 3+ years of experience with firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and network security principles.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts for OT environments.
  • Experience with network troubleshooting tools like Wireshark and SNMP monitoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Industrial Control System (ICS) certifications.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) - Industrial.
  • ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certification.
  • GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP).
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+ certifications.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP- preferably for cybersecurity-focused roles).
